Why Wisconsin?

Why Wisconsin?

“Discover the Unexpected”

Travel Wisconsin’s slogan is apt in describing the nature of travel to this midwest state. Despite Madison being designated a platinum-level cycling city since 2015 and the beauty of Milwaukee’s lakefront Art Museum, this cheese-filled destination doesn’t always get the love that it deserves. We’re here to change that.

Our Wisconsin Wanderlust Bike Tour is 6 days of 100% rail-trail riding designed to bring you to the heart of cycling in the midwest. Let’s learn a little more about what makes Wisconsin a dream cycling destination.

The Rail Trail That Started It All

Considered by many to be the first-ever rail-to-trail in the United States, the Elroy Sparta Trail in Wisconsin is truly a piece of history. Over it’s 32.5 mile length you’ll ride through three rock tunnels, five culture-rich small towns, and along prairies, wetlands, and farms.

The Farm-To-Table Capital of the Midwest

On our Wisconsin Wanderlust bike tour we’ll also sample Central Wisconsin’s excellent culinary scene. With more than 30 breweries and wineries and over 20 farm-to-table restaurants you’ll do well to bring your appetite.

Here are some of our favorites:

The Old Fashioned – Retro tavern serving authentic Wisconsin fare.

Alchemy Cafe – Gourmet farm-to-table food and live music.

Graze – Award-winning comfort food!

Ahan – Highly-rated Southeast Asian cuisine (our Tour Manager, Heidi, says she could eat here for the rest of her life!).

But Do They Have Heinz?

On Day 4 we’ll have lunch in Mt. Horeb, afterward we’ll have the chance to explore the National Mustard Museum which houses over 6,000 jars of mustard from all 50 states and over 70 countries plus a free tasting bar!

Luxurious Lodging in Madison, WI

We’ll spend three nights at the fantastic Hotel Indigo in Madison, Wisconsin. This boutique hotel features original architecture, creative murals, and the excellent Palette Bar & Grill.

This hotel is right in the middle of downtown Madison, and we offer plenty of time to get out and explore the local sights and culture during the last three days of the tour.

Wisconsin is the true essence of the midwest: excellent cycling, locally-sourced food, and a sense of community like nowhere else.
