Texas can’t be summed up by one idea. It is made up of tech boom cities, sprawling cattle ranches, old German towns and historic Spanish settlements. It is quiet rivers and skyline views. Honky tonk dancehalls and stylish music venues. It is Tex-Mex and steakhouses, matcha lattes, and trendy food trucks. It is a rodeo on a Saturday night, and a craft cocktail at a rooftop bar. Texas is a place for hippies, cowboys, musicians, entrepreneurs, and cyclists alike.
There is a striking juxtaposition everywhere you go in Texas. That’s why we’ve created a bike tour designed to reveal it all!! Day 1: Jump into Austin’s vibrant scene on Day 1. This fast-growing city, famous for live music, creative culture, and a laid-back vibe, is best explored by bike. Starting in East Austin, ride toward downtown to visit the State Capitol, the University of Texas, and Guadalupe Street. Loop 10 miles around the waterfront Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail, stopping to cool off at the Barton Springs Pool and eat lunch along the trendy South Congress strip. Enjoy a relaxed ride with time to explore your East Austin hotel neighborhood in the afternoon. Get ready for a true Austin experience in the evening- we’ll dine on authentic Mexican food and craft margaritas and then head to a beloved local dancehall for a two-step lesson and dancing to a live honky-tonk band!
Day 2: Leave your East Austin hotel for a day in the Texas Hill Country, a cyclist favorite for its rolling terrain, quiet backroads, and classic ranch scenery. Begin in Dripping Springs—the “Gateway to the Hill Country,” where the landscape shifts from flat plains to limestone hills. Ride through open pastures dotted with cattle and horses, cross rocky creek beds, and climb to sweeping valley views- pure postcard Texas. Finish at the iconic Salt Lick BBQ, a legendary spot serving family recipes dating back to the 1800’s. Then head back to East Austin for an evening exploring its lively mix of bars, food trucks, and live music.
Day 3: We’ll leave Austin’s bustle behind for a stay in the Hill Country, ending in a historic German-influenced town. The day’s ride begins in the relaxed, artsy town of Wimberley, following quiet roads along creeks and river banks towards Canyon Lake- known as the “Jewel” of the Hill Country. After lunch by the lake, we ride the cypress-lined River Road, a favorite scenic stretch for cyclists tracing the Guadalupe River. The day ends at our bed-and-breakfast in the charming Gruene Historic District in New Braunfels. Once a 19th-century German cotton town, Gruene is now a lively, walkable village filled with shops, restaurants, and live music. It’s also home to Gruene Hall, Texas’s oldest standing dance hall, where legends have played for generations. We’ll have time to explore before gathering for dinner on a patio overlooking the Guadalupe River.
Day 4: They say “Everybody is Somebody” in Luckenback, Texas- an unofficial town thats become a quirky gathering spot for live music. It’s also where we launch today’s ride. We will bike through cattle crossings across iconic Texas ranch lands, occasionally stopping for goats or cows to cross the road. Finish your ride in the picturesque German town of Fredericksburg, the heart of Texas wine country. Dine, eat, shop, and sip wine amongst the rich German heritage seen all around you. We’ll shuttle to San Antonio, and settle in along the famous San Antonio Riverwalk. In the evening, we will dine in the Pearl District, where a historic brewery now anchors one of the city’s most vibrant culinary and cultural destinations.
Day 5: Start your day with breakfast and skyline views from our rooftop hotel along the River Walk, then roll out for a guided bike ride with a local historian who brings San Antonio’s stories to life. Cruise through downtown to the Alamo, spin through expansive city parks and the botanical gardens, and follow the historic Missions Trail. Refuel with lunch in the charming King William District before some well-earned downtime—lounge by the pool or wander the Riverwalk at your own pace. As the sun sets, trade your bike for boots and head to Bulverde for a true Texas Saturday night: a hearty steakhouse dinner, a high-energy rodeo, and live country music that’ll have you out on the dance floor.
Day 6: Wrap up your bike vacation with a true Texas send-off, starting with classic breakfast tacos in downtown San Antonio. Then travel to Blanco to begin a scenic 24-mile ride to Wimberley. This final stretch showcases the best of the Hill Country- rolling country roads, wide open pastures and sweeping hilltop views. As you near Wimberley, the route softens into shady, tree-lined roads with cypress groves and glimpses of the river guiding you in. Celebrate the finish with a relaxed lunch overlooking the Blanco River, featuring classic Texas fare with a refined twist. From there, we’ll return to Austin, bringing the trip to a memorable close.
