Ohiopyle is Pennsylvania’s Next Mountain Biking Destination
Overlooking the small town of Ohiopyle and weaving through the green, wooded ridges of the Youghiogheny River Valley there exists an exciting and heart-pounding network of purpose-built mountain biking trails.
With steep climbs, technical rock gardens, and flowing downhill single track Ohiopyle State Park is quickly becoming a highly-rated mountain biking destination within Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands. But these 30+ miles of mountain biking trails aren’t the only thing setting this area apart.

Ohiopyle’s Mountain Biking Landscape
Ohiopyle State Park boasts two excellent mountain biking areas: Sugarloaf Mountain Bike Area and Clay Strips Mountain Bike Area.
Sugarloaf Mountain Bike Area
Sugarloaf Mountain Bike Area is a large network of purpose-built mountain bike trails with tons of loop options for every skill level of rider. Featuring flowing single track, double track, and gravel roads Sugarloaf Area has a trail for everyone.

The Sugarloaf Area in Ohiopyle also features the longest downhill mountain bike trail in the state of Pennsylvania. Starting from Fire Tower Road and linking McCune Trail, Upper Canyon Edge, Meatloaf, and Lower Sugarloaf trails this 9-mile descent takes you directly to the town of Ohiopyle.
Clay Strips Mountain Bike Area
The Clay Strips Mountain Bike Area is a 12-mile network of beginner and intermediate mountain bike trails featuring flowing downhill, quick loops, switchbacks, banked turns, and so much more. This network of trails can be linked with trails in the Sugarloaf Area to create any combination of epic mountain biking loops!

Ohiopyle Biking Club
The Ohiopyle Biking Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is at the heart of Ohiopyle’s transformation into a mountain biking paradise. This group of passionate mountain bikers has been around since 2010 and its members are dedicated to building, maintaining, and enjoying the mountain bike trails in Ohiopyle.
Over the last 15 years, the members of OBC have contributed to over 25 miles of mountain biking trails in Ohiopyle State Park. These contributions include scouting new trails, planning trail projects, building, maintaining, and raising the funds to make all that a reality.
Most recently, the OBC has facilitated a professionally-designed project at the intersection of Sugarloaf Road and Grover Road known as the Clay Strips.
These 12 new miles of mountain biking trails are built on the remnants of a defunct 200+ acre clay mining operation. This “reclamation to recreation” project is a welcome addition to Ohiopyle’s existing trails and features, smooth pine forest floor, wooded canopies, and sunset vistas!
