Purely Postcard Texas: Bike Touring the Hill Country

Purely Postcard Texas: Bike Touring the Hill Country

What happens when you send two Texans down to the Hill Country to develop a bike tour? Well, they skip past all the travel blogs and go straight to their hometown dancehall where they once saw George Straight play, and the Mexican cantina with a margarita that locals rave about, and the river-side bike ride they’ve done a hundred times and it never gets old. And they develop a local, culturally immersive, truly-Texas experience!

And this Fall, you can join the inaugural Texas Austin Hill Country Bike Tour and ride along with the two Texas guides who brought their hometown magic to life! And if being a Texas trailblazer isn’t convincing enough, here’s 5 more reasons why you don’t want to miss this truly unique Texas bike tour.

1. It Ain’t Cold In Texas!

We all know that stuck-winter feeling, when the cold and dark days are dragging on far too long, and we’d give anything for spring to come and melt the roads so we can finally take our bike for a spin!

Good news is- if you head south to Texas this November, you can squeeze in a little extra sunshine and vacation time before the 2026 riding season comes to an end. With November days in the mid-70’s in Texas, those dawning winter blues will be far from your mind.

Imagine dipping in a natural springs pool, drinking a cold, hand-crafted margarita with salt on the rim, sun sparkling on the rapids as your ride along the riverbanks. Trust me, you’ll want these easy, breezy, sun-shining memories fresh on your mind during the hunkered-down days of winter.

2. Deep In The Heart Of Texas

Many think of the Fredericksburg wineries, bluebonnets and sprawling ranch lands when you think of the Texas Hill Country. And while those are great features of the region, we wanted to make sure that our guests take a deep dive into the culture and stories shaping Texas today.

One day, we will ride on quiet ranch roads with classic views of Texas livestock roaming the fields, and ponder the miles and miles of private agricultural land core to Texas heritage. The next day, we will ride past the Texas Capital and the University of Texas in Austin, and reminisce on the city that once strived for an economic industry beyond government and education, and then tech industries took over almost overnight, earning the city the name “Silicon Hills.”

There is a story evolving everywhere you look in Texas. This tour aims to bring these stories to life. To experience the old and new, the nostalgic and modern. To experience the heart of Texas!

3. A Whirlwind Of Cultural Experiences

As Texas straddles the old and new, it makes for a vast array of cultural experiences as we venture from big city to small town along the TX Austin Hill Country Tour!

We’ll explore the eclectic South Congress Avenue in downtown Austin, home to famous live music haunts and up-and-coming foodie spots. We will put on our dancing shoes and take a two-step lesson at a famous Austin honky tonk. We’ll visit main streets with architecture, food, and culture still reminiscent of its early German heritage. We’ll eat barbecue with sauce recipes kept in the family for decades. We’ll see live music in the oldest dancehall in Texas. We’ll tour the historic Missions and learn of early Spanish life in San Antonio. We’ll drink local Texas wine, get our fill of local breakfast tacos, and spend the night in a high-rise along the San Antonio Riverwalk. And last but definitely not least, we’ll watch a live rodeo with local cowboys trying to make a living riding horseback!

It’s a tour jam-packed with a diversity of cultural experiences that will leave you in awe of the many worlds felt on one bike tour!

4. Creating Your Perfect Texas Vacation

There is not a single moment along the TX Austin Hill Country Bike Tour that didn’t take considerable thought. All along the tour design process, we thought about the guest experience, asking ourselves questions like How can we squeeze the most amount of Texas into a 6-day tour?

We thought about every meal, every ride, every activity, every place you lay your head. We wanted to make sure you truly tasted Texas- the barbecue, the steakhouses, the different styles of Mexican food. We wanted to make sure you drank it in- the local wine and outstanding margaritas. We thought about interactive and cultural immersive activities that spoke of each location we visit- two-stepping, live music, a guided historical bike tour, a Texas rodeo! We thought about each place we sleep- and not just that it’s comfortable and high quality- but that it is located near the heart of the city and speaks to the character of the surrounding culture.

And we created bike routes that highlight the diversity and beauty of the region. We will explore downtown Austin and its iconic greenway paths. We will see San Antonio on a guided bike tour of the historic Missions, like the Alamo. We will ride along the Bald Cypress-lined creeks and riverbeds threaded through the Hill Country. We will ride through the famous Devil’s Backbone, with gently rolling hills peaking into the Hill Country valleys below. And we will stroll past ranches, and marvel at the spectacle of goats, antelopes, cattle, white-tailed deer and longhorns like we’re set loose in a Texas-sized zoo.

We can’t wait for you to taste, see, and experience all that Texas has to offer!
